Description

Leprosarium, leper colonies or leper hospitals all deal with people afflicted by leprosy, a bacterial infection. Contrary to a widespread belief, lepers were not rejected and then confined systematically like plague victims were, as people of the time already knew that leprosy was not very contagious. It was more a matter of practicality, by grouping together people with the same needs. Structures under religious authorities could sometimes ask the leper to make some wows, as a way of cleaning both the soul and body. A Physician House or Hostel of God is required to build a Leprosarium.
