Also called copying chambers, the Scriptorium would see monks (in the Christian world) or scribes (elsewhere) create copies of important books, either in their original language or a translation of it (which led sometimes to magistral errors with rippling effects for centuries). It was fairly common that some works would be sold to nobles or savants, for a good profit.
