This alchemist will provide several transformed materials to the authorities or wealthy merchants, far from the cliché of being only focussed on the fabled Philosophical Stone. Alchemy dates back to antiquity but was particularly developed in the Byzantine empire. It also saw widespread development in some parts of the Arabic world. It often had as a goal the transmutation into precious metals of more common matter, but would also touch on other subjects, as alchemists had recipes for whitewash, soap, beer, Greek Fire (used by the Byzantine navy), and cinnabar pigment (used profusely by the Byzantine administration). Until the XVIIth century the words alchemy and chemistry were perfectly interchangeable for scientists. EVENT: This Alchemist Laboratory may, on extremely rare occasions, generate the Gold trade goods in the region, although hostile individuals will always accuse him of perpetrating a hoax!
