The merlons (the solid part between two gaps, the crenellations) of the castle's main wall are quite elaborate in shape. In Italy, they could have a swallowtail shape or be in a V-shaped notch so that a standing man can fire while still being protected. They were rounded in Africa and Islamic countries (and thus more decorative). Given the importance of the fortification, an extra detachment of Light Infantry will be assigned to the edifice (free extra unit). Merlons will greatly enhance the defensive capability of the structure (3 Points of Fortification and a significant Siege Resist bonus).
